LAHORE: A three-member bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday reserved its decision on a petition against the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) led protest of opposition parties, which is scheduled to take place on Mall Road today.
The full bench – headed by Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan and comprising Justice Shahid Jamil Khan and Justice Shahid Karim Khan – heard the petition.
The court on Tuesday issued the order on a petition moved by a local trader Naeem Mir.
The Punjab government presented its report on the protest in court.
The AG said the protest administration has been informed of the security threats and problems related to the demonstration.
Pakistan Peoples Party’s counsel, Latif Khosa informed the court that there are chances the protest could continue for more than a day.
The court then reserved its decision and is expected to announce it later today.
In the arguments presented by the petitioner’s side, it was stated that Mall Road is an economic hub and the protest will hinder livelihoods of people. The petitioner stated that Nasir Bagh should be considered as the alternate venue for the protest.
The administration had stated earlier that people protesting should not choose Mall Road, as Section 144 is in place in that area which forbids more than four people to gather at one place.
