LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has accused Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif of handing out state secrets to American officials, while also terming Nawaz Sharif a “security risk” for the country.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Khan gave reference to Wikileaks’ leaked diplomatic cables from US missions worldwide to accuse the Sharif brothers of “selling the country to the Americans”.
Khan claimed that Wikileaks had revealed that Shahbaz had told American senators that Pakistanis has been involved in the 2008 Mumbai attacks and also assured them he would take strict action against those involved.
“On one hand, they [the PML-N] — with people like [Punjab Law Minister] Rana Sanaullah — have been harbouring their own extremists groups; while on the other, Shahbaz went around telling the Americans that ‘we want to take over the Jamaatud Dawa’s madrassahs, hospitals and wider network but want proof from you to begin proceedings against them in the courts’,” Khan claimed.
“Shahbaz’s second demand was the restoration of his government in Punjab, as governor rule had been imposed in the province when this meeting happened,” Khan claimed.
‘Political elite responsible for US-Pakistan strained relations’
Imran said it was the political elite of the country which was responsible for the threats and strained relations between US and Pakistan.
He said despite incurring a loss of billions of rupees, the country was being blamed for US failures in Afghanistan. “We don’t need others to defame Pakistan, our leaders are doing the service for them,” he added.
‘Khatm-e-Nabuwat clause amended under US’ pressure’
Khan said the issue of Khatm-e-Nabuwat (the finality of the Prophethood) can now be easily understood after the US has added the country in a watch list for minorities and religious freedom violation. “Now we know on whose behest they amended the Khatm-e-Nabuwat clause,” he remarked.
He said the PML-N leadership was playing the role a modern-day “Mir Jaffar and Mir Sadiq”.
