The Peshawar High Court’s Mingora bench has declared delimitation of all Swat constituencies null and void and directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to review them within two days.
The decision was taken on a petition filed by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Sanaullah Khan.
The court is also hearing a petitions filed by Awami National Party (ANP) leader Brig Saleem and Haider Ali objecting to delimitations of NA-2 and PK-6.
According to the Elections Act, 2017, the commission is required to delimit constituencies afresh after every census. The petitions filed with the Peshawar High Court maintained that delimitation of constituencies was done prior to the elections on political grounds.
