ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has turned down the petition filed by Power China Construction Company seeking stay order against the biding process for awarding contract for the construction of Dasu dam.
A two member bench of the SC led by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali took up the case for hearing on Monday. Counsel for the petitioner construction company Suleman Aslam Butt prayed the court to stay the bidding for awarding the contract for the construction of Dasu dam which is taking place on Monday.
Counsel for WAPDA told the court that bidding had been opened at 11am about contract. The chief justice remarked, “World Bank is providing funds for the project. Can we go against the conditions set by the World Bank?”
Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed remarked, “Who will provide the funds if the World Bank suspends funding on interference of the court? Foreign company demanded that agreement between the government and the World Bank be revoked. If we accept the plea of foreign company then everything will stand undone.”
While directing the petitioner to provide copy of decision of high court, the Supreme Court rejected the petition seeking stay order.
